I learnt self care by practicing it rather than simply doing it “like a checklist” to show the world.

Why I am proud of not doing the 21 day self care challenge.

A few months ago, I wrote a blog on kicking off the 21 day self care challenge fully planned out with intention, action steps and daily goals. I am proud I did not follow through.

Even as I was typing the 21 day self care challenge it felt like it was going to be a lot to do a daily video, then find time to practice it in my day and then journal about the experience — phew! All while having a full time job, my usual coaching and ayurveda after job activities, and going about cooking, cleaning and the usual daily stuff — and I am only ONE person.

I knew I was putting a lot of pressure on myself. I was ‘pretending’ like it didn’t matter even it felt too much. Who was I kidding? Some amount of ‘should’, ‘shame’ or ‘guilt’ did come up because I had put it out publicly in the world to do the 21 day self care challenge.

I am proud because I ALLOWED myself to be with those emotions. I am proud because I LISTENED to my body and did what felt good and easy.

And isn’t that what self care is about? Giving yourself FULL PERMISSION to do what feels good to you?

It’s ironic, isn’t it, that I practiced self care by not doing the 21 day self care challenge? Love it. In the coaching world, this is a BREAKTHROUGH. I learnt self care by practicing it rather than simply doing it “like a checklist” to show the world.
